Carmela Escobedo, age 59, a resident of Mart, Texas, passed away Thursday in a local hospital after a brief illness. Born January 10, 1962 in Donna, Texas, to Antonio Enriquez and Marta Cavazos Enriquez, she had met the love of her life, Santiago Escobedo and moved to Muscatine, Iowa where they raised their family. Carmela was the youngest girl of ten and the second youngest. She was a devoted grandmother to all 20 of her grandchildren and kept most of them while their parents worked. She was preceded in death by her beloved niece, Sandy Prieto, a granddaughter, LeeAnna Enriquez, and her grandson, Isiah Escobedo who died this May. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Guadalupe Enriquez and Yolanda Izaguirre and her brother Enrique Enriquez.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 40 years, Santiago Escobedo of Mart, Texas and her 5 children and their spouses: Daughter, Melinda Enriquez of Waco; Daughter, Christina Enriquez and husband, Gabriel ‘’Bibi’’ Cardona of Muscatine, Iowa; Daughter, Dennise Escobedo of Belton, TX; Daughter, Delma Escobedo and husband, Dominique Smith of Austin, TX; Son Santiago Escobedo, Jr and wife, Chloe Villanueva of Waco.
She is also survived by her 20 grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters; Jose Enriquez, Roberto Enriquez; Antonio Enriquez, Jr; Martin Salvador Enriquez; Raquel Perez; and Rosalinda Walker and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel with Funeral Services at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park beside her beloved grandson, Isiah.
