Charles Dwain Ingram

February 7, 1941 — June 14, 2024

Dallas

Charles Dwain Ingram passed away on June 14, 2024, in his sleep at his home in Dallas. He was 83. Services will be on Friday, August 16, at 10 AM at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.

Dwain was born on February 7, 1941, to Charles Lee and Mable Noreen in The Grove, Texas. Shortly after he was born, the family moved to Waco. Dwain attended Baylor University, receiving his Bachelor's degree and Master's of Science in Physics. While in graduate school and working on his thesis, he went to work for NASA as an engineer in Houston on Apollo 11, which put a man on the moon on July 16, 1969. His dissertation centered around his work at NASA, which directly contributed to the program. In August 1967, he married Syandra Kay Fadal of Waco. After working for NASA and finishing his Master’s, Dwain and Syandra moved to Waco to raise a family. During his time as a graduate student, he worked as a Teaching Assistant. Seeing an opportunity to work at a local college, Texas State Technical College (TSTC), he took an Instructor position, teaching physics and various science-related courses. He thought it would be a temporary job at the time, but he loved teaching and working with the students. Over his career, he held various titles, including Lead Instructor and Chairman. He was awarded numerous recognitions for teaching techniques. When he finally retired in September 2018, he had amassed 49 years of teaching a subject he loved and had many special memories of working alongside the friends he made. Dwain served the Lord through song. Blessed with a deep voice, he sang bass in the Highland Baptist Church Choir for many years with his sister in the 1980s and early 1990s. The choir released a couple of records and even toured the UK. Additionally, Dwain was an avid fisherman, knowing some of the best fishing holes in Lake Waco. He was also an ardent gardener, sharing his bountiful vegetables with all he knew. In October 1995, Dwain and Syandra divorced, but their split was amicable. They remained friends, enjoying time with their grandchildren on holidays and at events.

Survivors include his sister, Sharon Clark of Waco; two sons, David Ingram and wife Tiffanie of Baytown, Texas, and Stephen Ingram and wife Whitney of Plano, Texas; two grandsons, Noah and Lucas Ingram; and one granddaughter, Annika Ingram. Dwain was a loving father, brother, and friend. He was always generous with his time, faithful to God, and willing to lend a hand or bend an ear. To his children, he was always good-humored, patient, and kind. For that, we will truly miss him.
