Delia Barnes Moore, aka "Mama Moore" and "Mom 2", age 73, of San Antonio, formerly of Waco, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2024, after her long struggle with dementia.
Delia was born March 19, 1951 in Crawford, Texas to Aurelio and Virginia (Guzman) Ortega. She attended school in Waco, graduating in 1969 from University High School. She furthered her studies at McLennan Community College and went on to pursue a career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring as a supervisor after 20+ years of service.
Delia loved spending time with her family. In her earlier years, she was a pioneer for Hispanic women in the workforce and once gave a presentation demystifying the introduction of cellular phones. She was an avid reader of psychological thrillers, and mastered the art of writing in shorthand. Even throughout her later years, Delia loved buying knick-knacks, organizing anything she could get her hands on, being spontaneous, listening to all types of music, dancing to country music, and taking advantage of any opportunity for a fun adventure. She also loved the comfort of a hot bath.
Delia is preceded in death by her parents Aurelio and Virginia (Guzman) Ortega; her husband Thomas "Danny" Moore; and her brother Benito "Benny" Ortega.
She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Davis and husband Taylor, Lauren Hagan and husband Adam, and Christina "Nina" Moore; her grandsons Jackson, Rowen, Parker, and Hunter; and her siblings Jacinto "Jimmy" Ortega, Baldomero "Bob" Ortega, Gonzalo "Roy" Ortega and wife Elaine, Eugenio "Eugene" Ortega, Irma Abbitt and husband Chase, Rebecca Guillen and husband Victor.
Services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11am at Waco Memorial Funeral Home with an interment to follow at Waco Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org.
The family would like to thank Delia's loving daughter, Nina, who as her main caretaker, exhibited an unwavering commitment to loving her until her last breath.
