Elmira Evans Mason

Elmira Evans Mason passed away April 8, 2023, at 86. She was born March 6, 1937, to the late Pearline Johnson and Summerfield Giddings and was raised in Cameron, TX. She later moved to Waco, TX, where she resided for the remainder of her life. 

Elmira was a proud member of the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she served as a nurse, usher, and choir member. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star out of the Houston chapter. She spent her life working as a nurse, first at Haven Manor Nursing Home and then at Providence Hospital, where she finally retired after 35 years. 

She married the late Reverend Robert Mason in Waco, TX.  Attending church, praying, watching the Dallas Cowboys, her soap operas, and her western shows (which she called her “shoot ‘em ups”), were some of her favorite pastimes.

Elmira was preceded in death by her siblings, WD Franklin, Jasper Johnson, Rosaline Franklin, Henrietta Haynes, Ricky Franklin, and Cornelius (Sam) Johnson, as well as her grandson, Kenneth Evans.

Elmira is survived by her three sons, James Williams and wife, Chantal of Kyle, TX; Jimmy Williams and wife, Rachel of Columbus, GA and Travis Evans and wife, Kimberly of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Zenia Evans of Waco, TX; grandchildren: Janytra, Tiffany, Christine, Nina, Jasmine (Jeremy), Jamahl, Jalen, Ariel, Aleah, Megan, Kaleb, TJ (Alex); great-grandchildren: Uriah, Jayson (Amari), Jakory, Aaliyah, Jeremiah, Jeremi, Kaden; great-great-grandchildren: Jayce, Amaréan, Alijah, and Jiya; brothers, Thomas Johnson and Benjamin Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Waco Memorial Funeral Home, 6623 I-35, Robinson, TX 76706. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14th, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
