On November 28, 2024, Elsie Bernice Horton passed away in Waco, Texas.
Bernice was born in Crawford, Texas on August 6th, 1938. She grew up in Waco and graduated from University High School in 1956. While working as a carhop, she met Eugene Horton who was in the Air Force at James Connally Air Force Base. The two were married in Waco, Texas February 15th, 1958. They welcomed their daughter, Laura, on August 21st, 1960. While Gene Horton served in the military, often going overseas, Bernice cared for the family at home. On October 19th, 1970, the Horton’s welcomed their son, Jesse, into the family. The family spent their years moving often and living in various states from North Carolina to Hawaii. After 35 years of marriage, Bernice laid to rest her loving husband of 36 years. She spent the many remaining years of her life working, traveling, and being with her family whom she dearly loved. She worked in banking for 27 years and retired in 2004 from Texas First State Bank. Of all her travels, she loved going back to visit Hawaii the most. However, she mostly enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.
