With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Geneva Thompson, 71 of
Lorena, TX, our loving and devoted Mama and friend to all whose lives she touched.
On March 10, 2023, after her 4 ½ year battle with Alzheimer’s, Geneva Marie
(Cardwell) Thompson was reunited with her love and forever dance partner, Ray
Thompson.
Geneva (Sissy) was born April 27, 1951, in Waco, TX. Along with her mother,
Conjetta Marie (Russo) Thomas, she was raised and loved by her stepfather, James
F. Thomas.
Mrs. Thompson graduated from University High School, in Waco, TX, in 1969. She
spent most of her adult life working in the accounting/bookkeeping fields.
Geneva enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, crafts, music and dancing. Her favorite
pastimes though, were sewing(anything and everything that woman could sew!), and
spending time with her family. Geneva was a dedicated wife and mother first and
foremost. She adored her husband and treasured her children, embracing every
moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a quiet, yet
spicy, Italian personality when provoked.
Geneva always treated her children’s friends, no matter young/old, new friends, and
seasoned friends like they were her own and always welcomed any reason to get
to feed you! (And then overfeed you!)
Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rayford Otis
Thompson, Jr.; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. James F. Thomas; her brother,
John Cardwell, and her sister, Carol (Thomas) Donaldson.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Marie Abbe, and her son, Michael Ray
Thompson, both of Lorena, TX; grandchildren, Kelsey and husband, Andy, Braley,
Ashlee and husband, Josh, Abigail, Savannah, Madison, Hayden, Collen, Chris and wife,
Jenni; great grandchildren, Kamdyn, Abri, Landen, Liam, Kynlee, Henry; as well as
many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Brenner, Kelly Kerr, Travis Argabright, Corey Ryno,
Steven Sutton, and Jeff Ryno.
To ensure the funeral pays beautiful tribute to Geneva Thompson, the family is
humbly requesting support for funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers.
You may call the funeral home to make a donation.
The family requests any/all attending services, please wear purple, in honor of
Mrs. Thompson and Alzheimer’s Awareness.
Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude for all the care
the staff at Bluebonnet Hospice rendered to our Mama, during her brief time in
Hospice Care. Your dedicated and compassionate team made our Mama’s last days at
home brighter and more comfortable, up until her peaceful passing. For that, we
are forever grateful and appreciative.
