George Frank Sykora

George Frank Sykora, 83, of Waco passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024. Services will be Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Waco Memorial Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Private interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

George was born January 30, 1941 in Falls County to Charlie Victor Sykora and Mary Theresa Pavelka Sykora. He graduated from Midway High School and worked at the Waco Tribune Herald for many years until he was drafted into the Army. George was stationed in Germany, doing printing, which ended up being his lifetime occupation. He also worked in Dallas at the Dallas Morning News in printing before moving back to Waco. He continued his career at Davis Brothers Publishing where he met his wife, Cyndi.

George and Cyndi were volunteer Hunter Education Instructors for nearly 20 years. He was honored with a plaque in Austin at the Hunter Education Hall of Fame.

He also loved to garden, build things, fix things, hunt, and fish. He was proud of his homemade bread and wine. You name it, George probably had done it! He had a gift for storytelling and shared some of the most interesting true stories and he could always make you laugh. The sight of George would make you smile because you knew he was going to keep you entertained.

He is survived by his wife, Cyndi Wendt Sykora; son, Charles Sanders; sisters, Evelyn Sedivy of Oklahoma and Mary Ann Vance of Waco; brother, Daniel Sykora of Washington State; and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

George was preceded in death by parents, Charlie V. and Mary Sykora and brothers, Henry, Frank, Jody, Sr., and Charlie Sykora.

The loss of George leaves a huge void in this Sykora family. We find comfort in knowing he has been granted huge angel wings in Heaven.
