John V. Harter Sr.

John Vincent Harter Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in Waco, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at Waco Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Crenshaw Officating. Interment will follow with Air Force Honors.

Mr. Harter was born in New York, New York, the son of the late James Victor and Veronica Jane (Burdsell) Harter Sr. on January 28, 1939. John began his education at Walla Walla High School in Washington State and continued his education at La Salle University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 to his honorable discharge in 1965. Soon after his discharge, he married D. Dale Clark on July 24th, 1965, in Abilene, Texas. He was employed as a Life Insurance manager at New York Life in Waco, Texas, and later as a Security Guard for Coke Cola Bottling Company in Waco, Texas. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado, where he taught Sunday School. After moving to Waco, Texas, he attended Park View Baptist Church. Throughout his life, he enjoyed reading history books, playing classical music on the piano, and working in his yard to make his neighborhood beautiful.

Also preceding him in death was his brother, James Victor Harter II.

John is survived by his loving wife, Dale of 59 years; 2 sons; Vince Harter and his wife Kimberly, and Mark Harter and his wife Erica; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother Jerry Harter.
