Joyce Lee Barrett Loden
Joyce Lee Barrett Loden of Waco passed away peacefully after a brief but serious illness on July 4, 2024.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 10 from 6pm till 8pm at Waco Memorial Funeral Home. A service open to all will be held Thursday, July 11, at 10am also at the funeral home in the chapel, with her Sunday School teacher, Nelwyn Reagan (First Woodway) officiating. Food and fellowship will follow in the funeral home’s Reception Center.
Joyce was born February 19, 1938, in Houston Texas to parents, Vernon and Jessie (Outlaw) Barrett. At an early age, Joyce and her family moved to Waco. Joyce got married YOUNG on July 2, 1955, to Billy Charles Loden, followed by graduation from Waco High School in 1956. She proudly brought two children to her home, Billy Charles Loden II of College Station, Texas and Sheri Lyn (Loden) Sims of Robinson, Texas.
Joyce enjoyed life and was no stranger to work, in and out of the home. She worked as a secretary, and as a chip inspector with a high security clearance at Texas Instruments. She worked retail and bookkeeping jobs and sold Tupperware at different times in her long life. She retired (December 1, 2012) after 39 years at the Owens-Illinois glass plant in Waco. Heck, she even had time to grow a few gardens, chase and raise cattle, chickens, dairy cows (as a girl in Waco on her parent’s dairy), teach Sunday School, be a Cub Scout den mother, and visit the Great Wall of China! Joyce and Billy traveled extensively in the 1980’s and 90’s.
Of late, Joyce has enjoyed her Sunday School Class at First Woodway, cool falls in New Mexico and of course her grandsons!
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jean (Barrett) Wright and husband Clay D, and brother L. C. (Jack) Barrett. Her ex-husband, but still friend, Billy C. Loden passed away in 2019.
She is survived by two loving children and families who love and miss her much, son, Billy II and his wife Lori Taylor Loden and daughter, Sheri. Three grandchildren: Clayton Sims of Waco, Matthew Loden of Austin and Ryan Loden of College Station. Sisters-in-law: Laura (Frazier) Barrett of Waco and Janelle (Dowdy) Loden of Glendale Arizona. Joyce also was blessed to have the love of a bunch of nieces, nephews, cousins, innumerable friends and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, Billy II thinks a donation to Baylor’s GXG NIL fund would be nice; however, Sheri feels a donation to Samaritan’s Purse, or your local church might be a better choice. You decide!
