Lavonne Sosebee

Lavonne Musick Sosebee, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on January12, 2025, in Waco, Texas, at the age of 94. Born on December 8, 1930, in Mixon, Texas, Lavonne's life was a testament to resilience and love, qualities that defined her throughout her journey.

During her formative years, Lavonne experienced the challenges of the Great Depression, which necessitated frequent moves for her family in search of work. Despite these difficulties, she persevered and graduated from Los Alamos High School in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Her early experiences shaped her resourcefulness, a quality she would carry throughout her life. While living in New Mexico she met the love of her life, Robert Jack Sosebee while he was in the Army stationed at the Manhattan Project. They married on July 28, 1947. In October of 1953, the couple moved to Waco where they would raise their family.

Lavonne found joy in simple pleasures. She was skilled in crocheting and spent many happy hours sewing clothing for her children. Her penchant for thrifting allowed her to uncover hidden treasures, while her adventurous spirit led her on numerous bus tours and three memorable trips to Europe, reflecting her adventurous spirit and love for new experiences.

As a longtime member of First Baptist Church Woodway since 1954, Lavonne was deeply committed to her faith and community. Her contributions to church activities and her warm spirit made her a cherished presence among her fellow congregants.

Lavonne is survived by her loving daughter, Sherry Gaskin and her husband, Jim; daughter-in-law, Georgia Sosebee; grandson, Jerry Jack Sosebee; and numerous nephews. 

She is now reunited in eternal peace with her loved ones who have preceded her in death: her parents, Addis Lyn and Eula Lillie (Langston) Musick; her husband, Robert Jack Sosebee; and her beloved children, Terry Jack Sosebee and Tina Sosebee.

A graveside service will be held in her honor at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Waco Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects as they celebrate Lavonne's remarkable life and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
