Lonnie Ray Coone, Sr. went peacefully to be with his heavenly Father on July 19, 2021. Lonnie was born January 24, 1944, to Kenneth Allen and Ruby L. Coe Coone in Riesel, Texas. Lonnie was a long-time member of Olive Branch Baptist Church and loved his church family and serving his Lord. He especially loved attending men’s breakfast at Olive Branch Baptist Church and attending all their church activities. His greatest pleasures were tending to animals on his place in Axtell and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and rodeos, plays and other activities as long as he was able. He was a Teamster Member for over 30 years and last worked for ABF Freight Company in Waco, Texas. Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carole L. Dabbs Coone. They were high school sweethearts and were married January 14, 1963 in Riesel, Texas. He is also survived by four children, son; Rick Coone of Bertram, Texas; daughter Cheryl Coone Vasta and husband Sonny of Belton, Texas; son Lonnie R. Coone, Jr. and wife Carmen of Waco, Texas and Daughter, Anne Coone Cantrell of Axtell, Texas; nine grandchildren, Chance Ling and wife Lisa of Lorena, Texas; Collin Ling of Belton, Texas; Clayton Coone of Temple, Texas; Tanner Coone of Waco, Texas, Ethan Cantrell, now serving in the United States Air Force in Japan, Taylor Cantrell and Preslee Coone of Axtell, Texas; Maurine Paynter and Lexie Paynter of Lago Vista, Texas and Danielle Hardin Holz and husband Jon of Belton, Texas; great grandchildren, Tristan and Ryleigh Nichols of Lorena, Texas and great grandson, Cannon Levi Ling of Lorena, Texas; a sister, Polly Coone Neff and many nieces and nephews that he loved and who loved him very much.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Kenneth Coone; Mother Ruby Coone; Sisters Janette Gail Coone Jackson and Rebecca Coone Johnson; Brother, Same Allen Coone and Nephew, Sammy Charles Coone.
A special thanks to the nurses in surgical ICU unit at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco for the exceptional and compassionate care he received during his time there as a patient.
Rev. Rex Bland will be performing the services. Pallbearers will be Chance Ling, Collin Ling, Clayton Coone, Tanner Coone, Taylor Cantrell and Sonny Vasta. Honorary Pallbearer will be grandson A1C Ethan Cantrell and special recognition to Preslee Coone, his longtime sidekick and assistant animal caretaker. She has always assisted him in all aspects of the farm work and loved driving him around to do chores in his Kawasaki Mule.
