After graduating from Fredericksburg High School in 1959, Lynette attended Austin Beauty School. She was a Beautician at the Driskill Hotel in Austin while Robert was attending the University of Texas. She felt lucky to be called on to be the hairdresser for wives of some dignitaries such as the wife of actor Gregory Peck and the wife of Texas Governor John Connally. The Rays moved to Waco in 1967.

Lynette was an avid and skilled gardener and landscaper who helped many friends shape and improve their outdoor areas. She also displayed many interior decorating achievements. She enjoyed so much playing games with friends. Her greatest love was for her family, especially thoroughly enjoying time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

Also preceding her in death was a sister Alberta Lochte, a brother Wilfred Dittmar, and brother, Melvin Dittmar.

Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband Robert H. Ray, two daughters and their spouses- Robin and Greg Townsend of Hot Springs, AR and Donna and Bob Packwood of Robinson, TX.; five grandchildren- Tara and Aaron Hunter, Kyle Hutchinson, Morgan Hutchinson and Hunter Townsend and one Great Grandchild, Avery Hunter; a brother- and sister-in-law--Nolan and Ellie Dittmar from Arlington, TX; brother-in-law Kermit Lochte; sister-in-law Harriet Crenwelge; sister-in-law Judy Dittmar; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Jo Ray.
