Mary Elizabeth Hughes

On August 28th, 2024, Mary Elizabeth Hughes (maiden name Ragland) passed at the age of 93 years. She was born on a Sunday, July 12th, 1931, in Groesbeck, Texas. 

 The services will be at the Waco Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing will be at 10:00 AM, with the service to follow at 11:00.

 Mary was the ninth of 11 children, and she spent her childhood in rural parts of central Texas. At the age of 19 years, she married a preacher named Walter Hughes, raising a daughter and a stepson with him. 

She was an excellent seamstress and would often make clothes for her daughter. She also spent years working at JC Penney's and similar retail stores.

 Ms. Hughes was preceded in death by nearly everyone; she outlived her parents and all of her other 10 siblings.

Surviving children include Deborah Sue Crabtree and Jimmy Dwight Hughes, along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
