Mattie Kinnison

December 12, 1920 — February 5, 2020

Mattie Dee Kinnison, 99, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 05, 2020.

The family is gathering at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 08, 2020, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church at 1155 Liberty Hill Rd., Moody, TX, for a private family visitation and lunch reception. The Kinnison/Lott Family will receive visitors at 11:30 a.m., followed by services at 12:30 p.m., officiated by Dr. John D. Hogan. Graveside will be at Waco Memorial Park.

Mattie, known by many as “MeMa,” was born to Edward Pinkney and Jeffie Virginia Blackwell in Elm Mott, TX, on December 12, 1920. She married Brice Weldon Kinnison on February 10, 1946, they resided in Houston, before moving to Ropesville, TX, in 1957 where they raised their two children. In 1986 they moved to Moody, TX, where they continued to reside.

She was known for passionate work ethics; Mattie did whatever it took to care for her beloved family. Working as a waitress and cook at local cafés, checking and stocking groceries at local grocery stores, bookkeeping for the local Texaco, and providing housekeeping services; all the while growing a large, beautiful garden, canning her crops, and in child raising years milking cows every morning and night.

Mattie was active in the churches of Houston, of Ropesville, attended The First Baptist Church and caring for the nursery children at First United Methodist Church. After her move from Ropesville, she became a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church of Moody and soon began caring for the nursery. Mattie spent over 70 years caring for the church nurseries and teaching Sunday School.

She was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother; a wonderful homemaker who loved to cook, bake and write poetry, as well as her family, church and friends who quickly became family, but above all Mattie loved her Lord and Savior. She was devoted in praying for anyone’s needs that she knew, managed the LHBC prayer chain and card ministry for years, back before texting & cell phones. Just about everyone that knew Mattie, called her MeMa, a name bestowed by granddaughter, Jennifer.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Brice Weldon; five brothers and sisters; two infant sons and daughter-in-law, Barbara Kinnison.

Survivors include son, Weldon P. Kinnison of Leesburg, VA; daughter, Erline and husband, J.T. Lott of Moody, TX; grandchildren, Stephanie Woodward of Leesburg, VA, Scott and Mary Kinnison of Stephens City, VA, Jennifer (Lott) and husband, Jeff Wann of Conway, AR, Wendy Lott and husband, Deo Gonzales of Lumberton, TX; Tracy Klusacek of Lott, TX, five great-granddaughters; five great-grandsons and two great-great grandsons.
