Melvina (Mel) Qualls passed away at home surrounded by her family. Her husband was devoted to caring for her and he was holding her hand as she passed peacefully the morning of January 23, 2022 at the age of 84.
Mel was born December 24, 1937, she was the youngest of four children, born to Melvin and Inez Cunningham in Jay, Oklahoma. She attended school and grew up in Seminole, Oklahoma and it was there she met Roy her husband of 65 years. They were married on August 23, 1956 and on that day they moved to Borger, Texas. Shortly after they moved to Odessa, Texas they began their family, where they had their first two children, Eddie and Kim. Later, they moved to Waco, Texas where they welcomed their third child, Darren, and made their home for the last 53 years.
Mel was a devoted wife and mother, but especially loved raising and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family playing games, a love that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Roy Qualls of Golinda; her children, Eddie Qualls and wife, Donna of Waco; Kim Knight and husband, Ronnie of Robinson; Darren Qualls and wife, Kelley of Robinson; grandchildren, Lance Qualls, Lee Qualls, Wendy Knight, Preston Knight, Bailey Qualls, Emily Worthington; great-grandchildren, Landon Qualls, Lilly Qualls, Layla Qualls, Brendon Qualls, Bryson Qualls, and Brantley Qualls, her brother Louie Cunningham of Seminole, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Inez Cunningham, sisters, EuVonne Priest and Mildred Jackson; grandson Layne Qualls.
The family would like to extend a special gratitude for the loving care of Alamo hospice nurses Hope, Terrie, and Sharah.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM, Friday, January 28, 2022 at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. Graveside services will be at 2 PM, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Waco Memorial Park with Chapain Richard Koskela officiating.
