Paula Kay Locke Mitchell

June 28, 1949 — March 27, 2025

Burleson

Paula Kay Mitchell, a woman of remarkable spirit and devotion, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Burleson, Texas. Born on June 28, 1949, in Waco, Texas, Paula was a beloved daughter to Paul Friedrich Locke and Laura Bertha Koester Locke, both of whom preceded her in death.

Paula's journey through life was marked by her unwavering kindness and an extraordinary capacity for love. After graduating from Waco High School, she embarked on a successful career as a professional secretary for Halliburton and several other corporations. In 2003, she chose to retire—to dedicate herself to the care of her husband, Thomas Dwayne Mitchell, who left this world in 2011. Her commitment to family did not end there; in 2014, she began to care for her sister, Joyce Marie Schroeder, continuing until she moved to Burleson to be near her daughter, Stephanie Hall, in November of 2024.

Throughout her life, Paula exemplified selflessness, often prioritizing the well-being of others above her own. She was not just a caregiver in title but in essence—a true embodiment of generosity in every aspect of her life. A huge NASCAR fan, she also embraced the outdoors. Whether it was tending to her garden, canning the fruits of her labor, or relishing serene moments fishing and hunting, Paula found enjoyment in every situation. Her love for travel led her to delightful adventures in Cozumel and Hawaii, where she indulged in snorkeling and scuba diving.

Paula’s charitable spirit shone brightly in her many contributions to those in need. She generously donated coats and mittens to those overseas, supported the World Relief Organization to ensure others were fed, and offered her kindness to animal shelters throughout her community.

Her family was her pride and joy. Alongside her daughter, Stephanie, she cherished her grandson, Colby David Rauer, and his wife, Chassidy. Paula delighted in her three great-grandsons, Jace, Jaustin, and John David Rauer, with whom she shared countless cherished moments. The bonds of love she created extended beyond family; she fostered numerous friendships in both Waco and Burleson, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Though Paula faced the profound loss of her son, William Paul Mitchell, who was stillborn in 1971, she kept his memory alive in her heart throughout her life.

Paula Kay Mitchell leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and selfless service. Visitation will be Monday, March 31, 2025 from 6pm to 8pm at Waco Memorial Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waco. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
