Sandra Kay Shockey, 78, of Lorena passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024 at her residence. Services will be Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 1pm in the chapel of Waco Memorial Funeral Home.
Sandra Kay Shockey was born in Dallas, TX, on April 17, 1946, to John Leonard Hopkins and Frankie Oleta Noble Hopkins. In 1960, her family moved to Waco, TX, where she attended Richfield High School. Later, she married the love of her life, John Kenneth Shockey, on June 20, 1964. They had two children: Cherie in 1965 and Glenn in 1967. In 1978, the family moved to Lorena, TX, where they raised their kids and found their permanent home.
Dedicated in every aspect of life, Sandy made a 33-year career working for Hillcrest Hospital, serving in the accounting and HR departments. She was also a long-time member of Crestview Church of Christ and Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ. She attended church services regularly and loved attending Ladies Bible classes after she retired. Sandy had the heart of a selfless servant in all that she did.
Her favorite activity was spending time with family, going out to eat at local restaurants together, and any time she got to witness her two grandsons become the fine family men they are today. Later in life, she also became a devoted dog lover, devoted to the every need of her granddogs, Diamond and Ellie, who brought her so much joy.
After fighting a long persisting illness, Sandy passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, John & Oleta Hopkins, her brother Gary Hopkins, her sister Gloria Hopkins McDonald, and her husband of 56 years, John "Ken" Shockey.
She leaves behind her daughter Cherie Shockey, her son Glenn Shockey & wife Michele, her grandsons Garrett Shockey & wife Callista and their children Brooke and Ellie, her grandson Brandt Shockey & wife Makenzee, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank Providence Hospice, Visiting Angels, Sherie Coleman & her dedicated staff, Accent Care, and all of the medical staff for the compassion, kindness, and care they've shown for Sandy and the family during her lingering illness. Special thanks to Tiffiny, Laura, Tish, Sheri, and Joyce for all of their love and care.
