Steve DeLeon

Steve DeLeon, 86, passed away October 1, 2023. He was born December 26, 1936, in Waco, to Dolores Maciel and German DeLeon. He grew up in Waco and moved to Dallas in 1972.

He began working at Scottish Rite Hospital in the Environmental Services department, where he worked for 20 years. He also worked at Baylor Hospital in Dallas for 15 years. He retired in 2005 after 20 years at Scottish Rite Hospital. He received many awards for Superiority and dedication to how he performed his duties around the hospital, including the employee of the year award. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas.

Steve married Febe Alvarado in 1963, and they were happily married for 10 years. He enjoyed walking, exercising, shopping at antiques shops, and spending time with family, friends, and his little dog Chico. He loved listening to Tejano music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, German DeLeon and Dolores Maciel; wife, Febe Alvarado; son, Steve DeLeon, Jr.; and unlce, Martin Salinas; aunt, Matilda Salinas; and his good friend, Armondo Torrez Garcia, of Dallas.

Steve is survived by his children, Leon and Melissa Deleon, Mark and Carol Gonzales; Martin and Diana Gonzales, and Jose and Rose Marie Villarreal; brother, Jessie Pesina and wife, Mary; grandchildren, April Ryberg, Hannah DeLeon, Baya DeLeon, Jessica Jiminez, Brenda Herrera, Ciera Gonzales, Carol Gonzales, Justin Dunlap, Roman Guajardo, Deandra Diaz, Natasha Gonzales, Nicole Velarce, and Jesus Velarce; great-grandchildren, Bryleigh Ryberg, Beau Ryberg, Matelo Velarce, Jameson Jimenez, Judson Jimenez, Analicia DeLeon, Aria DeLeon, Aubriana Talley, Aaliyah Talley, Demi Talley, Sergio Diaz, Jr., Alyssa Noriega, and Lorenzo Gonzales; the Mendoza children, who he loved like his own; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home, 6623 South Interstate 35 in Waco. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.
