Tommie Lyverne Zahorik

Tommie Zahorik,99, of Bruceville passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on August 1, 2023.

Tommie was born in Hillsboro, Texas on March 3, 1924, to Leslie Allen and Annie Mae Wood. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942. She met the love of her life, Gordon Zahorik, a Ft. Hood soldier, as she was walking home from church. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 28, 1948. They were married for 52 years before Gordon’s death on April 16, 2000.

Tommie was a loving wife and mother who loved to cook and take care of her family. She was a founding member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Robinson, Texas and served as a member of the church board. She also taught Sunday School and was active on various committees of the church. Tommie was also an active member of the Robinson PTA and Band Boosters and served as a room mother.

Tommie became an avid Texas A&M fan in 2006 when her grandson began attending Texas A&M University. She loved their conversations about Aggie sports.

Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and siblings, Frances Juanita Wood, Leslie Allen Wood, Jr., Allie Wynona Franks, Kennith Alonzo Wood, and Alma Lois White.

She is survived by her brother, Harry Gordon Wood and wife, Deana of Orange, Texas; daughter, Pamela Zahorik of Lorena; daughter, Judy Carpenter and husband, Craig of Bruceville; son, Skip Zahorik and partner, Sandy Wittliff of McGregor; grandson, Tyler Carpenter and wife, Robyn of Tampa, Florida; and great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Grant Carpenter.

A celebration of Tommie’s life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Tommie’s memory to the American Cancer Society, First Baptist Church Building Fund, or a charity of your choice.
