William Lee Mitchell , a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024 at the age of 80. Born on August 4, 1944, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to Verne Mitchell and Era Young, the family later moved to South Bend, Indiana, where they continued to build their lives together. Bill lived a life marked by courage, compassion, and a deep love for his family and country.

A proud Vietnam War veteran, Bill bravely served his nation, earning two Purple Hearts. He served in the Army for 21 years and later retired from the VA hospital.

William Lee Mitchell married the love of his life, Alice Elizabeth Orr, on May 27, 1972. Together, they welcomed two children: Natasha Elizabeth Mitchell and William Lee Mitchell Jr.

He was a man of many passions. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as indulging in ice cream, tending to his chickens and rabbits, and spending time fishing. He was a devoted family man, always there to lend a helping hand and offer words of wisdom.

Bill is survived by his loving daughter, Natasha Franco, and son-in-law, Bennie Scott; his cherished granddaughter, Jessica Franco Chirino, and son-in-law, Jonathan Chirino; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Jordyn Chirino. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his loyal companion, Nightmare the cat.

A memorial service will be held on December 6, 2024 at 2pm at Waco Memorial.
